Chrome installation

Four simple steps. That's it.

Click a step to see exactly what to do. The page stays in the same light TraceAna design from start to finish.

1

Open Chrome Extensions

Open chrome://extensions and turn on Developer mode.

Tip: Keep this tab open while you load the TraceAna folder.
2

Choose “Load unpacked”

Select the folder that contains manifest.json directly.

Do not select the ZIP itself. Extract it first, then select the extension folder.
3

Open TraceAna in DevTools

Open any web page, press F12, then choose TraceAna from the DevTools tab bar.

If TraceAna is not visible, reload the page and reopen DevTools.
4

Reload and start capturing

Reload the page after opening DevTools. Network requests will begin appearing in the TraceAna capture view.

Now select a request to inspect headers, timing, payloads and diagnostics.

Quick answers.

Where do I get TraceAna?

For the current developer build, use the TraceAna extension package supplied with your installation. Chrome Web Store distribution can be added once the store listing is live.

Why do I need Developer mode?

The current Chrome build is distributed as an unpacked developer extension. Developer mode enables Chrome's “Load unpacked” workflow.

Why don't I see TraceAna in DevTools?

Make sure the extension loaded without errors, then reload the web page and reopen DevTools. TraceAna appears as its own DevTools panel.
